A 34-year-old petrol attendant, Alaba Samson, has been arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing ₦1.78 million from a filling station in Lagos.
The defendant, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing charges of conspiracy and stealing but pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutor ASP Edet Ekpo told the court that Samson allegedly stole the money on two occasions between August 1 and 2 at Jamfad Filling Station, Torikoh, along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The stolen funds, amounting to ₦1,781,500, were said to belong to the complainant, Falade James.
Ekpo explained that the defendant was arrested at his residence and handed over to the police for prosecution. He said the offences contravened Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.
Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum. He ruled that one of the sureties must be self-employed and adjourned the case until September 24 for mention.
