The Jigawa State government has distributed relief materials to 500 households affected by recent flooding in Malam Madori Local Government Area.
The intervention, carried out through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in collaboration with the local council, followed a heavy downpour that destroyed more than 70 houses and damaged several others across communities including Shagari Quarters, Tonikutara, Gandun Sarki and Gandun Bundugoma.
According to the council’s Information Officer, Musa Muhammad, the items were shared to ease the immediate hardship of residents who lost property in the disaster. Each beneficiary received food supplies such as rice, millet, wheat and semovita, along with N5,000 cash to cover transportation.
Chairman of Malam Madori LGA, Salisu Sani, said the support was aimed at cushioning the impact of the disaster and urged residents to make good use of the assistance.
SEMA Executive Secretary, Hannafi Yakubu, who represented the state governor, sympathised with the victims and assured them of the administration’s continued commitment. He also pledged to secure additional aid from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Traditional leaders, including the District Heads of Malam Madori and Waje, Muhammad Saleh and Ilyasu Ibrahim, commended the government for its swift response and timely intervention.
