…Urges Gov Alia to send replacements
The Benue State House of Assembly has approved six commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Hyacinth Alia, while turning down two others after petitions were raised against them.
Details of the confirmation were contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by Mr Terver Zamber, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Assembly.
According to the statement, the House confirmed Hon. Theresa Odachi Ikwue, Hon. Dr Benjamin Ashaver, Hon. Dr Adamu Margaret Ijaguwa, Hon. Dr Peter Oboh Egbodo, Hon. Denis Iyaighgba and Dr Paul Ejeh Ogwuche.
However, the nominations of Dr Yangien Ornguga and Mr James Dwen were rejected, with lawmakers insisting that the petitioners’ concerns were not satisfactorily addressed during the screening. The Assembly consequently asked the Governor to present two new candidates to replace them.
The Speaker praised members of the Assembly for what he described as thorough and conscientious work throughout the exercise. He further reminded the confirmed nominees that the task before them was a call to serve, stressing that their performance must reflect the confidence of both the legislature and the people of Benue.
Lawmakers reaffirmed that the outcome of the screening reinforced the Assembly’s determination to uphold transparency, integrity, and accountability in governance, noting that such standards remain central to restoring trust in public office.
