All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ovia Federal Constituency by-election, Mosede Igbinedion, cast her vote on Saturday but declined to speak with journalists afterward.
Igbinedion voted at Unit 2, Ikaladerhan Primary School 2, Okada West Ward I, in Ovia North East Local Government at about 10 a.m. Her bid marks a political comeback, as she previously represented the constituency between 2015 and 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
After losing re-election attempts in 2019 and 2023 to Dennis Idahosanow Edo State’s Deputy Governor Igbinedion switched allegiance in 2024, defecting to the APC in a move that played a role in the PDP’s defeat during the September 2024 governorship election. She later secured the APC ticket for the by-election.
Meanwhile, voting in Ovia North East was marked by a heavy presence of security operatives to maintain order. Despite the tight security, voter turnout remained low, and by early afternoon many polling units were largely deserted.
