The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against engaging in multiple registration during the forthcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, stressing that offenders risk being completely removed from the voter register.

Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Plateau State, Mohammed Sadiq, issued the warning during a stakeholders’ meeting on the resumption of CVR nationwide. He emphasised that voter registration is both a fundamental right and a civic duty, urging all eligible citizens aged 18 and above who are yet to register to take advantage of the exercise.
Sadiq announced that the CVR will begin on August 18 with an online registration phase, which can be completed from any location. The exercise will cater to new registrants, PVC transfers, replacements for lost or damaged cards, and collection of unclaimed PVCs.
He assured that measures are in place to prevent non-Nigerians from participating and called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, and other stakeholders to mobilise eligible residents for the exercise.
