The Federal High Court in Abuja has given the Federal Government until September to conclude its prosecution of former National Security Adviser (NSA), retired Col. Sambo Dasuki, over alleged unlawful possession of firearms and money laundering.
Justice Peter Lifu fixed September 24, 25, and 26 for the government to present any remaining witnesses and tender all exhibits in support of the charges, which have lingered since 2015. Dasuki is facing a seven-count amended charge and is expected to open his defence once the prosecution closes its case.
At the last hearing, prosecution witness Monsur Mohammed, an exhibits keeper with the Department of State Services (DSS), detailed items recovered from Dasuki’s Abuja residence, including electronic devices, cheque books, foreign currency, and documents. He also testified that $150,000 was recovered from Dasuki’s Sokoto home and deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The court admitted several recovered items as exhibits after the defence raised no objection. The prosecution requested more time to bring other items recovered during searches of Dasuki’s properties.
Granting the adjournment, Justice Lifu ordered the prosecution to be ready to close its case in September, paving the way for the defence to present its arguments in the long-running trial.
