YOWAN MOTHAY, KALIMPONG, JUNE 28, 2025 : Kalimpong District Magistrate Balasubramanian T conducted a series of developmental inaugurations and inspections on Saturday, covering various locations across Dungra and Sindebong Gram Panchayats (GPs). The visit aimed to assess the progress of ongoing rural development initiatives and ensure quality implementation of welfare schemes under different government programs.
The DM officially inaugurated a new Community Sanitary Complex (CSC) at Jordhara under Dungra GP. The facility provides easy access to community-level sanitation.
As part of rural infrastructure development under the XV Finance Commission, the DM inspected a recently constructed footpath. He interacted with local residents to gather feedback on its utility and emphasized the importance of quality workmanship and maintenance.
The DM also visited the solid waste segregation shed at Lower Ramitay in Dungra GP. Constructed under the Zilla Parishad (ZP) share of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), the facility supports scientific waste management and segregation practices under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen).
A significant milestone was marked with the inauguration of the newly constructed Gram Panchayat Office Building at Sindebong. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was jointly carried out by Kalimpong MLA Ruden Sada Lepcha and District Magistrate Balasubramanian T, highlighting the government’s focus on strengthening grassroots governance infrastructure.
The DM visited the Cheuribotay AWC, where he reviewed the functioning of the centre and encouraged activities like kitchen gardening as a way to promote nutrition among children and pregnant women under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme.
The District Magistrate also graced the 4th Saturday meeting of the Community Health Care Management Initiative (CHCMI) at Sindebong GP. He emphasized the importance of community participation and timely health interventions at the village level.
A highlight of the visit was the DM’s inspection of innovative livelihood initiatives. He also visited Ajambari Tales Candle Making Unit—a local candle-making venture providing skill-based employment, particularly to women and self-help groups—and Anjini Initiative – Titepati Sabun Unit, a local soap-making initiative promoting eco-friendly and handmade products while encouraging rural entrepreneurship.
During the visit, the District Magistrate was accompanied by Samirul Islam, Block Development Officer, Kalimpong-1; Deepak Meena, IAS probationer; Karmadhakshya Brijita Ghimire; CDPO Pramesh Moktan; B. K. Biswakarma; Pradhan Sindebong GP; and Sangmit Lepcha, Pradhan Dungra GP.
The day’s engagements reflect the district administration’s proactive approach to decentralized development, with a focus on improving public services, empowering local entrepreneurs, and ensuring community well-being through integrated programs—also ensuring transparency and quality of the work.
