Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Kolkata, June 22, 2025 : The 50th foundation celebration of the Homeopathic Medical Association of India (HMAI) kicked off with a grand event organized by its Sealdah branch at Nalban Food Park. The event not only commemorated the establishment of the association but also marked the 270th birth anniversary of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the revered father of homeopathy, and the birth anniversary of another notable figure in homeopathy, Dr. J. N. Kanjilal.
The ceremony was inaugurated by West Bengal’s Fisheries Minister, Mr. Biplab Roy Chowdhury, who praised the contributions of homeopathy to medical science. The event brought together a distinguished group of professionals and experts from the field of homeopathy to celebrate the occasion and acknowledge the significant strides made in homeopathic treatment over the years.
One of the key highlights of the event was the special recognition of Dr. Ashok Kumar Pradhan, a prominent homeopathic physician, for his exemplary contributions to the field. Dr. Pradhan was recently honored in Jaipur, Rajasthan, as the best doctor for practicing single medicine treatment, following the principles laid down by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. During the ceremony, Dr. Pradhan shared his experiences and insights about this prestigious award, which further emphasizes his commitment to traditional homeopathic methods.
In his address, Dr. Saidul Islam, Secretary of HMAI’s Sealdah branch, highlighted Dr. Pradhan’s contributions beyond homeopathy. He noted Dr. Pradhan’s active involvement in social work and his support for various institutions, including the Ramakrishna Mission, portraying him not only as a skilled doctor but also as a social reformer.
Minister Biplab Roy Chowdhury, in his speech, reinforced the legitimacy and scientific value of homeopathy as a recognized system of treatment. He drew attention to the historical figures such as Rabindranath Tagore, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, and Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, all of whom had supported homeopathic practices. The minister also credited homeopathy for maintaining his own health at his advanced age.
The event was attended by a host of eminent figures in the homeopathic community, including Dr. Shyamal Mukherjee, National President of HMAI; Dr. B. P. Das, President of HMAI Sealdah Branch; Dr. Saidul Islam, Secretary of the Sealdah branch; and Dr. Iltab Hossain, Dr. Sudipta Narayan Ray, and Dr. Dhakulkar, among others.
Several former Directors of the National Institute of Homeopathy (NIH) also graced the occasion, including Dr. Samir Bhattacharya, Dr. Abhijit Chatterjee, Dr. Subhash Singh, Dr. Ramkrishna Ghosh, Dr. Amalendu Pradhan, Dr. P. K. Maitra, Dr. Chinmoy Roy, Dr. Binoy Kumar Das, Dr. Salil Ray, Dr. S. I. Hossain, and Dr. Sushanta Sarkar. Representatives from Tripura and other parts of the country also participated, underscoring the national recognition of the event.
The occasion proved to be a fitting tribute to the legacy of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann and the growth of homeopathy in India. It not only celebrated the achievements of homeopaths like Dr. Pradhan but also provided a platform to discuss the future of the discipline, fostering collaboration and progress within the medical community.
