Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has assured that his administration is committed to transforming Akure into a befitting state capital that can stand at par with the best across the country.
The governor said the ongoing urban renewal around Alagbaka is only the beginning of a wider plan aimed at turning the city into a world-class capital.
He also promised to accelerate work on major road projects, including the Ijoka Road and the Irese flyover, alongside other new roads already in the pipeline.
Aiyedatiwa gave the assurance on Thursday when he performed the groundbreaking for 32 units of four-bedroom terraced residential buildings for members of the State Executive Council at the Government House Grounds, Alagbaka, Akure.
The governor described the project as a milestone that would address the housing deficit for cabinet members while adding to infrastructure development in the capital city.
He said: “This project is significant as it provides modern terraced buildings with amenities that ensure the safety and comfort of our cabinet members. Each unit is well-planned, combining efficiency of space with the security of a gated environment.”
The estate will consist of 28 terrace houses in five clusters and four stand-alone units, with a gatehouse and a maintenance block.
Aiyedatiwa noted that the initiative aligns with his administration’s developmental agenda, OUR EASE, and reflects his commitment to the welfare of those driving government business. He urged patience from the legislature and judiciary, assuring them that similar projects would be extended to them in due time.
The governor further reiterated his plan to roll out an affordable housing scheme for civil servants across the state.
Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, said the initiative demonstrated Aiyedatiwa’s resolve to bridge the state’s infrastructure gap and called on the contractor to deliver quality work on schedule.
Chief Technical Officer of Cosgrove Investment Ltd., Engr. Baba Kalli, pledged that the project would be executed to the highest standards, describing it as a reflection of innovation, progress, and good governance.
Chairman of the House Committee on Lands and Housing, Hon. Biola Oladapo, hailed the governor’s foresight, describing the initiative as a legacy project that would enhance unity, productivity, and welfare of cabinet members.
The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, also lauded the governor and urged him to sustain the pace of development in the state capital.
The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji; Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip; members of the Executive Council, lawmakers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other dignitaries.
