KalimNews | August 29, 2025 | Kolkata : A well-marked low-pressure area, initially formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal near the Odisha coast, has weakened and shifted inland. As of 8:30 AM IST today, August 29, 2025, the system has moved to the central parts of Chhattisgarh and its surrounding areas. The associated cyclonic circulation still extends up to 5.8 kilometers above sea level, tilting southwestwards with height. This shift has triggered weather changes across Bengal, especially in the northern regions, an updated IMD bulletin stated.
It stated that the monsoon trough now stretches from Sri Ganganagar to Shivpuri, Damoh, the center of the low-pressure system over central Chhattisgarh, and continues east-southeastward to the central Bay of Bengal. While the low-pressure system is not directly impacting West Bengal, the region will still experience significant weather effects. Favorable wind patterns and moisture influx from the Bay of Bengal at lower levels are expected to bring heavy rainfall, particularly in parts of North Bengal.
