The Ondo State Police Command has recovered a stolen Toyota Camry and uncovered a car theft syndicate following intelligence that led officers to an apartment in Owo.
DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the Police Public Relations Officer, said in a statement that the recovered vehicle, a golden 2010 unregistered Toyota Camry, was taken in July from a residence in the Osi area of Akure.
The owner of the car, Madam Akomolafe Bolanle, explained that her home was broken into around 4 a.m., and the thieves stole her car keys before making away with the vehicle and other valuables.
Investigations by detectives traced the car to Owo, where it had been repainted blue, apparently to conceal its identity.
The vehicle was recovered from the residence of Fagbote Michael Olamilekan, who was arrested.
During questioning, he admitted buying the car for ₦4 million from a man identified as Adewumi, who remains at large.
Further inquiries revealed that the repainting of the car was carried out with the help of a painter who has also fled. The police have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects.
Ayanlade, while warning professionals in the automobile trade, said: “Anyone found aiding criminals, knowingly or otherwise, will face prosecution.”
Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal commended the officers for their dedication and assured residents of the Command’s continued commitment to public safety.
