The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, Abdullahi Saliu, for allegedly impersonating a Colonel in the Nigerian Army and defrauding two women of more than ₦1.3 million in a fake job racket.
Police spokesman, DSP Ayannlade Olayinka, said Saliu tricked the victims, Oshoade Janet and Daisi Remilekun Joy, into believing he could help their sons secure slots in the Nigeria Customs and Immigration Services.
He reportedly collected ₦1,377,000 from the women and converted the money to personal use.
Investigations revealed that the suspect’s network extended beyond Ondo State, with victims traced to Edo, Delta and Kogi. He had also been on the police radar for posing at different times as senior officers of the Army, Navy, Customs and Immigration.
DSP Ayannlade said the suspect has already been charged before Magistrate Court 1 in Akure.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, described the breakthrough as part of the command’s sustained efforts to rid the state of fraudsters and criminals.
The Command also lauded Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for the support and guidance that has strengthened operations in the state.
