Ondo Police recover ₦2.8m stolen goods, arrest suspects in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has recovered property valued at ₦2.8 million and arrested several individuals linked to a shop break-in in Akure. 

The disclosure was made in a press statement signed by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, Police Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal.

The statement said the incident took place on August 27, 2025, when Musa Abdullahi reported that unknown thieves had broken into his wife’s shop in Osokoti area, Akure. 

The stolen items included ₦300,000 in cash, a deep freezer with stabilizer worth ₦500,000, assorted foodstuffs, other valuables, and seven 25-liter jerry cans of vegetable oil.

“During the course of investigation, credible information was received that one Adegdule Segun of Osokoti Layout, Akure, had been apprehended by members of the Oodua People’s Congress with suspected stolen items. The suspect, unable to give a satisfactory account of the items, was handed over to the Police with the exhibits,” the release stated.

Subsequent police investigations led to the arrest of Dayo Lawson of Ondo Town. 

“His confessional statement provided vital leads which aided the arrest of three suspected receivers of the stolen property, namely Murtala Kabiru, Damilola Oyateru, and Ijilusi Opeyemi,” the statement added. 

The Commissioner of Police praised the rapid response of the operatives and acknowledged the contribution of the OPC. 

“The Ondo State Police Command is ever willing to cooperate and collaborate with all stakeholders — including sister security agencies, community groups, and non-state actors — in ensuring that Ondo State remains safe and secure for law-abiding citizens, while being unsafe and uncomfortable for criminal elements,” the release noted.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies. 

“This success further demonstrates that security is a collective responsibility, and cooperation with stakeholders continues to yield tangible results in the fight against crime across the state,” the statement concluded.
