Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the disbursement of N350m for the 2025 scholarship and bursary scheme for indigenes of the state studying in tertiary institutions across the country.
The package, which will benefit about 12,000 students, covers five categories including medical and law students, as well as students living with disabilities.
This year’s allocation surpasses that of 2024, when N335m was released to 11,200 beneficiaries. In 2024, the governor also reviewed the bursary upward from N10,000 to N20,000, while students with disabilities received N75,000 each and scholarship recipients got N100,000 each.
Speaking on the new approval, Aiyedatiwa restated that his administration places education at the centre of its development agenda, describing it as the key to unlocking the potential of the younger generation.
The announcement comes barely two weeks after the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) began payment of its 2023/2024 bursary and scholarship scheme to 4,837 indigent students from oil-producing areas.
Aiyedatiwa said: *“Many of our students face significant financial challenges in pursuing their academic dreams. That is why we have these bursary and scholarship awards, as well as financial assistance, to provide support, alleviate financial burdens, and enable our students to focus on their studies.
“These awards are a testament to our commitment to investing in the future of our state and our country. We must ensure that our students have access to quality education and the necessary support to excel in their academic pursuits.”*
The approval was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan.
