The management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, has confirmed that no life was lost in the fire incident that occurred at one of its student hostels on Saturday.
In a statement signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Olumide Olugosi, the management said the fire was swiftly extinguished, preventing what could have been a major disaster.
“The management extends its heartfelt appreciation to the state government, led by Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for their concern and prompt intervention during this unfortunate incident,” the statement read.
It also commended the Student Union Government and the Ondo State Fire Service for their quick response, which played a vital role in bringing the situation under control.
The institution noted that investigations into the cause of the fire were already ongoing, assuring that necessary preventive measures would be taken to avoid a recurrence.
While pledging continued commitment to the safety and welfare of students, the management said support was being provided to those affected by the incident.
“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our students, staff, and the community during this time,” it added.
