The Benue State House of Assembly on Friday plenary presided over by the Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, approved the immediate suspension of Hon. Alfred Aondoaver Emberga of Makurdi North Constituency, Hon. Shimawua Emmanuel of Vandeikya 2 Constituency, Hon. Cyril Ikong of Oju 2 Constituency, and Hon. Abu Umoru of Apa Constituency for three months from legislative duties for conspiracy and attempt to cause chaos in the House.
Following the motion moved by Hon. Saater Tiseer, the Majority Leader, titled H.M. 17: “Motion to suspend Hon. Alfred Aondoaver Emberga (Makurdi North State Constituency) and three others from legislative duties for attempt to cause chaos in the House,”
The mover of the motion further informed the House that on Wednesday, 20th August 2025, the House in the spirit of unity passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the House and the Governor of the State and expressed worry why barely three days after the House adopted resolutions on the matter, Hon. Emberga and three others went behind to mobilise other members to cause chaos in the House, which was inimical to the peaceful coexistence of the House.
He further resolved that the House condemned in the strongest terms the dishonourable actions of Hon. Alfred Aondoaver (Makurdi North Constituency), that the House suspend the following Honourable Members from legislative duties for six months for indulging in dishonourable actions capable of causing aspersions and causing acrimony in the House.
Deliberating, Hon. Elias Audu of Gwer East Constituency and the Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Peter Bemdoo Ipusu of Katsina-Ala West Constituency, condemned the acts of the affected members in its entirety and supported the motion.
The Honourable Speaker then ruled three months suspension for the affected members.
The Speaker further dissolved the House Standing Committee and appointed Elias Audu as the spokesman for the Benue State House of Assembly, Douglas Ackya elevated to Chief Whip of the House, and Kennedy Angbo as Deputy Minority Leader.
The House also screened and confirmed the following commissioners out of the nine nominees: Dr. Ortese Yanmar, Dr. Fredrick Ikyaan, Orpin Manasseh Alumo, and Michael Oglegbe respectively.
