Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, has restated President Bola Tinubu’s determination to strengthen energy security across the West African sub-region.

Ekpo made this known during a meeting in Abuja with the outgoing and incoming managing directors of the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo). The session, held at his office, was disclosed in a statement issued by his spokesman, Louis Ibah.
The minister explained that the federal government remains firmly focused on ensuring reliable gas supply to neighbouring countries such as Benin Republic, Togo, and Ghana. He noted that consistent energy flow is vital to tackling energy poverty and supporting shared economic growth in the region.
Ekpo pointed out that the Tinubu administration has recorded notable progress in the gas sector over the past two years, citing investments in infrastructure, reductions in gas flaring, and expanded supply capacity for both domestic and export markets.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to address the challenge of energy poverty in Nigeria, across the West African subregion, and on the continent as a whole. Through strategic policies and key projects, this government is prioritising gas as a driver of prosperity,” he said.
He added that steady gas exports within the sub-region remain a top priority, particularly to Benin Republic, Togo, and Ghana, as these supplies are crucial to powering industries and sustaining economic advancement.
In his remarks, WAPCo’s new managing director, Bodunrin, sought the minister’s backing to achieve his vision of raising the company’s performance. He said his focus will be on ensuring dependable and uninterrupted gas delivery from Nigeria to consumers across West Africa.
