Voting has commenced in the by-election for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, following the death of former representative Ekene Adams of the Labour Party in July 2024.
Accreditation and voting began around 10:45 a.m. on Saturday across polling units in Chikun and Kajuru local government areas, with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducting the process under the watch of security agents.
At polling units such as Day Secondary School, Narayi, and Government Secondary School, Sabon Tasha, voters were seen conducting themselves in an orderly manner.
An INEC ad hoc staff, Alex Aloh, expressed optimism that the exercise would be smooth given the level of organisation and voter turnout. A resident of Sabo, Tina Mathew, also commended the conduct of INEC officials, noting the seamless start of the process.
Civil society groups and security personnel were also present across the constituency to monitor and ensure transparency in the exercise.
