The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured residents of Ogun State’s Remo Federal Constituency of a free, fair, and credible by-election scheduled for Saturday.
The constituency is among 16 across 12 states where polls will be held to fill vacant seats, including two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies, and nine state constituencies.
The Ogun poll will replace Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, former Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, who died on Jan. 15 after a brief illness.
Ogun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Saseyi Feyijimi, told NAN on Friday in Abeokuta that INEC officers had been trained to conduct the by-election professionally and without compromise.
She urged voters to turn out on Saturday, August 16, and vote for candidates of their choice, adding that distribution of election materials would begin promptly and arrive at polling units on time.
“All election technology, including the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), has been fully configured for the exercise,” Feyijimi said, commending political parties for adhering to campaign guidelines.
