Hon. Olowa Backs Sanwo-Olu’s Call for Tougher Building Codes at NBSSII Stakeholders’ Engagement
The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has thrown his weight behind Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s call for stricter enforcement of building codes to curb incessant building collapses in Lagos State.
Hon. Olowa was among stakeholders at the National Building Safety and Structural Integrity Initiative (NBSSII) engagement, organised by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA), with the theme “Incessant Building Collapse in Nigeria: The Need for Strict Adherence to Building Codes and Regulations”.
In his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed that every building in Lagos should be a place of safety, not a source of danger. He noted that 2025 has recorded the lowest rate of building collapses in two decades, but insisted the battle is far from over.
“We are enforcing tougher building codes, empowering our agencies, and holding everyone accountable. But safety is a shared duty, and we cannot do it alone,” the Governor said.
Hon. Olowa, a strong advocate for professional integrity in the construction industry, commended the State Government’s efforts, noting that Ibeju-Lekki’s rapid development demands strict compliance with safety regulations.
He urged professionals never to endorse substandard work that endangers lives.
“Together, we can make building collapses a thing of the past in Lagos State,” he added.
