…Alleges Atiku’s grip on ADC
A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Diran Odeyemi, has alleged that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is effectively under the control of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his loyalists.
Speaking on Politics HQ, a programme on News Central TV, on Tuesday, Odeyemi claimed that Abubakar strategically moved his political associates into the ADC.
“ADC, if you want to know, is Atiku Disciples Congress. He moved his people to that place. So, if any presidential candidate or hopeful joins ADC today, that will be the end of his dealings with ADC,” he said.
Odeyemi further asserted that Abubakar might have won the 2023 presidential election if he had chosen Peter Obi as his running mate.
“If Atiku was smart enough to pin down Obi as his vice-presidential candidate, he would have been the president today,” he maintained.
He faulted Abubakar’s refusal to meet the demands of the G5 governors, including the removal of Iyorchia Ayu as PDP National Chairman, describing the decision as a costly political misstep.
“If he were the type to take a decisive stand, Ayu would have been removed in line with the G5’s demands,” Odeyemi added.
The PDP stalwart also voiced scepticism over the quality of political advice Abubakar relied on during the election period.
On speculations about former President Goodluck Jonathan joining the ADC, Odeyemi suggested that such a move could prompt Abubakar to leave the party.
Earlier, on 8 August, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido described Jonathan as the PDP’s strongest prospect for the 2027 presidential election and called on the party to court him back into its fold.
