The Jigawa State Commissioner for Humanitarian and Special Duties, Hon. Auwal Sankara, has disbursed N50 million to 250 youths and women’s groups from his constituency as part of a personal empowerment programme aimed at boosting business growth and reducing poverty.
The cash distribution took place during Governor Umar Namadi’s visit to Ringim Local Government for the state government’s “Government and Public Engagement” initiative, known locally as Gwamnatin Da Jama’a.
Hon. Sankara, who represents Ringim Local Government, said the initiative was designed to complement Governor Namadi’s drive for youth employment, job creation, and poverty alleviation.
He explained that while some beneficiaries would use the N250,000 received to expand existing businesses, others would start new ventures.
Governor Namadi praised the commissioner for supporting his administration’s 12-point agenda, particularly in the areas of empowerment, job creation, and poverty reduction, stressing that tackling poverty is vital for driving economic growth and employment.
He emphasised the need for skills training and the creation of an enabling business environment, urging political leaders, business owners, and other affluent individuals to extend similar support to people in their communities.
