President Bola Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The nomination is part of a broader shake-up that also includes two new commissioners for the crucial regulatory body.
The nominations were announced by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy earlier today.
Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat replaces Engr.Sanusi Garba whose tenure has elapsed following his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari in December 2020.
In a statement, President Tinubu urged the new appointees to leverage their expertise to advance his administration’s vision for the power sector.
Engr. Ramat, 39, holds a PhD in Strategic Management and is an electrical engineer. He will serve in an acting capacity until his confirmation by the Senate to ensure there is no leadership gap at the agency.
The other two nominees are Mr. Abubakar Yusuf, who will serve as the Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun, nominated for the position of Commissioner of Finance and Management Services.
All three nominations are subject to confirmation by the Senate.
