Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, Aug 6, 2025, Kolkata: In a significant reshuffling within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), the party appointed Barasat MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar as its new Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha, while actor-turned-politician Satabdi Roy was named the Deputy Leader of the party in the House. This decision came after Kalyan Banerjee, the previous Chief Whip, resigned from his post following a series of internal conflicts with party colleague Mahua Moitra, the representative from Krishnanagar in the Lok Sabha.
The TMC made the announcement on social media, stating, “Shri Kalyan Banerjee submitted his resignation yesterday to the Chairperson from the post of Chief Whip of the @AITCofficial Parliamentary Party in the Lok Sabha. The Chairperson has accepted his resignation and thanks him for his contributions in that role.” The post further revealed that after consultations with senior parliamentarians, the party leader appointed Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar as the new Chief Whip of the TMC in the Lok Sabha, with immediate effect. Alongside her, Satabdi Roy was designated as the Deputy Leader of the TMC in the House.
Kalyan Banerjee’s resignation came after growing tensions within the party, particularly with Mahua Moitra. Banerjee had previously been tasked with coordinating the party’s Lok Sabha activities when another leader, Sudeep Banerjee, was unwell. However, after a series of internal issues and disagreements, Banerjee decided to step down from his responsibilities as Chief Whip. Mamata Banerjee, the TMC supremo, accepted his resignation on Tuesday.
In light of these changes, Mamata Banerjee also appointed Abhishek Banerjee as the new Leader of the TMC in the Lok Sabha, a role he will assume until Sudeep Banerjee recovers. The reshuffle comes at a time when the TMC is grappling with internal divisions, and the leadership changes signal an attempt to bring greater stability to the party’s operations in the Parliament.
The TMC’s internal restructuring aims to ensure smooth functioning of the party in the Lok Sabha, with Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar now coordinating daily activities while Abhishek Banerjee continues to oversee the larger parliamentary strategy.
