Kabir Yusuf has presented appointment letters to 1,038 newly recruited agricultural extension workers, as part of a wide-ranging initiative to tackle unemployment and revitalise Kano State’s agricultural sector.
The formal presentation, held at the Government House on Monday, was attended by senior government functionaries, traditional leaders, and the beneficiaries, who were drawn from all 44 local government areas of the state.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s resolve to strengthen agriculture as a pathway to economic empowerment. He described the recruitment as a key fulfilment of his government’s pledge to generate employment by investing in the agricultural value chain.
He characterised the new recruits as a “vibrant workforce” and announced that they would be deployed to various field offices and agricultural agencies. Their roles, he said, would include advancing modern farming techniques, supporting agro-processing initiatives, and driving food production at the grassroots.
Governor Yusuf also revealed that the state had commenced the expansion of irrigation facilities in strategic areas, with plans to upgrade rural agricultural infrastructure. These interventions, he explained, are intended to reinforce the work of the extension agents and stimulate agricultural productivity across Kano.
Chairperson of the Kano State Civil Service Commission, Hajiya Ladidi Garko, addressed the new staff during the ceremony. She called on them to exhibit professionalism, diligence, and discipline in the discharge of their duties.
Garko noted that the state government remained committed to rolling out more human capital development programmes, particularly those targeting youth employment. She, however, stressed that such opportunities must be met with sincerity of purpose and dedication by beneficiaries.
Some of the new extension workers, speaking on the sidelines of the event, expressed appreciation for the recruitment. They described the opportunity as transformative and promised to serve their communities with honesty and determination.
