The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has named Mr Chinonso Obasi, former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), as its Deputy National Youth Leader.
His appointment follows shortly after the party constituted a new National Executive Committee headed by Senator David Mark as National Chairman and Mr Rauf Aregbesola as Secretary General.
The leadership was unveiled during the ADC’s National Executive Council meeting held on 28 July 2025 in Abuja.
A statement issued on Thursday from Mr Obasi’s office described him as a youth development consultant and humanitarian, widely recognised for his dedication to youth empowerment and community service.
The statement noted that Obasi’s track record spans several leadership positions within the student movement. He previously served as National President of NANS, South-South and Southeast Coordinator, Regional Coordinator, and Student Union President. He was also the founding President of the Nigerian Youth Union and a youth delegate at the 2014 National Conference.
Born on 27 April 1987, Obasi is from Ebonyi State. He is married to Mrs Hannah Chinonso and is a father of three.
His political involvement includes serving as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council in 2015, 2019, and 2023.
According to the statement, his background in engineering, activism, and political mobilisation is expected to strengthen the ADC’s youth engagement strategy. He holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
