The duo was intercepted by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans on Tuesday night while trying to cross the India-Nepal border. During preliminary interrogation, the SSB personnel recovered two Aadhaar cards with Assam addresses and Indian voter ID cards from the accused, raising serious questions about the use of fraudulent documents in human trafficking networks.
Initial investigations revealed that the traffickers were planning to take the girl to Arunachal Pradesh, possibly for exploitation.
Following the arrest, both accused were handed over to Kharibari Police and were subsequently produced at Siliguri Court on Wednesday. The minor victim has been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee for care and protection.
An in-depth investigation is currently underway to trace the broader network involved and determine whether the accused are linked to any larger human trafficking racket operating across the Indo-Nepal border.
