The six-day strike, which began on Monday, was launched by the Lecturers’ Association Manipur (2018 batch). The teachers are demanding the implementation of a state cabinet decision from January 2022 that had regularised their services, as well as a subsequent order for the disbursement of regular salaries from April 2023. Both promises, they allege, remain unfulfilled.
“We have been performing our duties, including election-related work, but still haven’t received regular salaries. Many schools are affected, but we’ve been left with no option,” said S. Anita, a protesting lecturer.
She further stated, “We understand the students’ plight, but we are also facing serious financial hardships. We urge the government to complete the regularisation process and release our salaries.”
In the meantime, normal classes have been impacted as students from various government schools, including Johnstone Higher Secondary School and CC Higher Secondary School, staged protests in front of the school gates. They are urging authorities to address their teachers’ demands and restore academic normalcy.
