A pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has reportedly diverted $8,000 meant for church missions, abandoned his wife in South Africa, and remarried another woman in the United States.
The revelation was made by Pastor Folu Adeboye, wife of RCCG’s General Overseer, during a men’s programme, as captured in a video monitored by Church Times.
According to her, the money was entrusted to the unnamed pastor—said to be originally from Ekiti State—for the purpose of acquiring a permanent worship site for an RCCG parish in Cape Town, South Africa, where he was serving. Pastor Folu, who had visited the parish for a mission outreach, expressed concern over the church holding services in a rented eatery, prompting her to inquire about the cost of securing a permanent location.
The pastor allegedly told her that $8,000 would be enough to initiate the process. He proposed using the money to purchase a used vehicle for tourism business in South Africa, with expected returns going toward acquiring a church site.
Impressed by the initiative, Pastor Folu said she released the funds. However, it later emerged that the pastor had absconded with the money, leaving his wife behind in South Africa and relocating to the United States, where he reportedly married another woman.
“The woman he left behind is now in a very terrible state—almost mentally unstable,” Pastor Folu lamented.
While addressing the RCCG men at the programme, she questioned the spiritual integrity of such behaviour and called for a return to true Christian values.
“Are we going to continue with this spirit of deceit in the house of God? We must return to the old path where we follow Jesus wholeheartedly,” she said.
Pastor Folu also recalled the humble beginnings of RCCG, referencing the early days at Redemption City where members endured hardships, including the lack of electricity for three years, relying on lanterns and manual labor despite having access to modern conveniences before relocating.
Her message served as a strong call for introspection and a reminder to RCCG members of the values of discipline, transparency, and commitment to their faith.
