A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has discharged former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, of all money laundering charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Delivering its judgment on Tuesday, the court upheld a no-case submission filed by Fayose’s legal team, concluding that the anti-graft agency failed to provide sufficient evidence to justify the continuation of the trial.
Fayose had faced a protracted legal battle over allegations of financial misconduct during his time as governor. However, the court ruled that the prosecution’s case lacked the substance required to proceed to a defence stage.
