A 38-year old woman, Adaku Emeka, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly setting an 11-year old boy on fire and inflicting injury on his body over an undisclosed matter.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 1st July, 2025, at Oseni Street, Oshodi, Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect allegedly burned the victim all over his body with fire from a burning nylon and inflicted serious injuries on his body before he was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The matter was reported to the Police in the area. The woman was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation at the Gender Section, the Police found him culpable and consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Adaku Emeka ‘f, on the 1st day of July, 2025, at No. 17. Oseni Street, Oshodi, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did indecently treat one Victory Emeka ‘m’ 11years old by burning him all over his body with fire from a burning nylon and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 135(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Phillip Ademigbuji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted her bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
