Agencies, Mumbai, 28 June 2025 : Indian actress and model Shefali Jariwala, popularly known as the “Kaanta Laga Girl,” passed away on 27 June 2025 at the age of 42 following a cardiac arrest at her residence in Oshiwara, Mumbai.
According to police sources, Jariwala had taken her routine medication along with an anti-aging injection, which she had reportedly been using for several years under medical supervision. On the day of her death, she had been fasting for a religious ceremony, and later that evening, her blood pressure dropped significantly. She began to shiver, prompting her family to rush her to the hospital, where she was declared dead. A forensic team has collected medical samples from her residence for further investigation.
Her last rites were performed on 28 June at the Oshiwara crematorium in Mumbai, attended by close family and friends.
A Celebrated Career
Born on 15 December 1982 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Shefali Jariwala rose to fame with the 2002 remix music video “Kaanta Laga”, a massive hit that earned her the enduring nickname “Kaanta Laga Girl.” The video catapulted her to national fame and led to appearances in Bollywood films, most notably in “Mujhse Shaadi Karogi” (2004) alongside Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.
Jariwala also made a mark in South Indian cinema, particularly with her performance in the 2011 Kannada film “Hudugaru”, in which she featured in the popular dance number “Pankaja.”
Beyond films, she became a familiar face on Indian television, participating in reality shows like “Boogie Woogie,” “Nach Baliye 5” and “Nach Baliye 7” with her husband, actor Parag Tyagi. She was also a wild card contestant on “Bigg Boss 13” in 2019, where her presence reintroduced her to a new generation of viewers.
In the digital space, she starred in web series including ALT Balaji’s “Baby Come Naa” (2018), where she played the lead opposite Shreyas Talpade.
Personal Life and Health Struggles
Jariwala held a degree in Computer Applications and studied Information Technology at Sardar Patel College of Engineering in Anand, Gujarat. Her father was a chartered accountant, and her mother worked with the State Bank of India.
She was first married to musician Harmeet Singh of the Meet Brothers duo in 2004. The couple divorced in 2009 following allegations of domestic abuse. In 2014, after a four-year relationship, she married actor Parag Tyagi.
In interviews, Jariwala openly spoke about being diagnosed with epilepsy as a teenager. She experienced her first seizure at age 15 and underwent medical treatment for a decade. She credited yoga and fitness with helping her overcome the condition and regain confidence.
