Madhubani, Bihar : Two Chinese nationals were arrested on Wednesday evening from the India-Nepal border in Madhubani district, Bihar, under suspicion of engaging in activities deemed threatening to national security. The individuals were allegedly caught taking photographs in a sensitive border area.The suspects have been identified as Wu Hailong, 38, from Dalian in Liaoning Province, and Sheng Junyong, 30, from Xiuning County in Anhui Province, China. According to Madhubani Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogendra Kumar, the arrests occurred near a bridge on the no-man’s land separating India and Nepal after the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), a paramilitary force responsible for guarding India’s borders, tipped off the local police.
The two individuals were detained along with a Nepali national, who was also questioned as part of the investigation. Authorities found that the suspects had no valid Indian entry documents or visas during their inspection. It was revealed that the Chinese nationals had been traveling in Nepal for the past three months, and their passports, visas, and identities are being thoroughly verified by relevant agencies.
During the initial investigation, authorities recovered several items from the suspects, including three mobile phones, a power bank, a touch watch, 12,415 Nepalese rupees, a small black wireless microphone, a bracelet resembling Rudraksha, a bottle of herbal oil, a white printed handbag, a data cable, and a gold-plated locket.
Suspicious Content Found on Phones
Authorities have confirmed that they found anti-India videos on one of the suspects’ mobile phones, raising concerns about the individuals’ motives and potential espionage activities. Police are examining the content for further intelligence. Upon inspection, their mobile phones reportedly contained videos promoting the Khalistan movement, prompting further investigation. While the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, the police plan to take the two Chinese nationals into remand for more questioning and are considering seeking assistance from other intelligence agencies if necessary.
The authorities are also investigating the full extent of the suspects’ activities, including whether they had any links to any organized networks or foreign intelligence agencies. The police have also confirmed that one of the suspects was able to communicate in some English, though interpreters have been called in for more detailed communication.
Legal Proceedings and Border Security Concerns
SP Kumar confirmed that the two Chinese nationals have been booked under the Foreigners Act of 1946 for violating Indian border laws. While the immediate arrests have raised security concerns, officials are focusing on determining the full scope of the suspects’ intentions and actions.
The Jatahi-Pipraun border, where the suspects were arrested, is considered a sensitive area, and any breach in security, especially involving foreign nationals, raises alarms regarding potential espionage or covert activities along India’s northern frontier.
The police and SSB have assured that all necessary measures are being taken to further probe the issue and ensure that border security is not compromised. The detained individuals are expected to face further legal scrutiny as authorities verify their identity and movements across the region.
A Heightened Security Alert
With the arrests being made in such a sensitive area, the security forces are now on high alert along the India-Nepal border. This incident highlights the constant vigilance required at India’s borders, where any unusual or suspicious activities are treated with the utmost seriousness, particularly when foreign nationals are involved.
This incident follows the recent arrest of another Chinese national, Yu Si Chow, near the Ladania border in the same district. Authorities have expressed concern over the growing number of unauthorized entries along the open India-Nepal border, particularly in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, which targeted cross-border terrorism.
