A 25-year old man, Oluwashola Akinola, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing one gold neck chain worth N15m belonging to Ajibade Oluwadamilare.Ā
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 11th May, 2025, at Aluko Street, Liasu Road, Ikotun Lagos, where the complainant resides.
According to the Police, the suspect went where the complainant kept the gold and stole the item but did not state how he gained access to where the gold was kept.
However, when the complainant discovered that the gold was missing, he reported to the Police at Ikotun Division and the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Oni Waheed Adebisi, ordered his officers to move into action and bring the culprit to book.
The suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation. After the interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charge read:
“That you, Oluwashola Akinola ‘m’ On 11th May, 2025, at about 1320hours, at No 15, Aluko Street, Liasu Road, Ikotun Lagos, in the Lagos magisterial District, did steal One gold neck chain of 125 grams worth Fifteen Million Naira (N15,000.000.00), property of one Ajibade Oluwadamilare ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287, of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.”
However, he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.A.Popoola, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 30th June, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
