KalimNews, May 28, 2025 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit West Bengal on Thursday, May 29, marking his first public appearance in the state following the recent counter-terrorism operation, Operation Sindoor. His visit includes the official launch of major infrastructure initiatives and a high-profile public address.
The Prime Minister will participate in a government function in Alipurduar, where he will lay the foundation stone for a significant City Gas Distribution (CGD) project that spans Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts. Valued at over ₹1,010 crore, the project aims to supply Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to more than 2.5 lakh households, as well as over 100 commercial and industrial establishments. It will also enable the rollout of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicles through approximately 19 CNG stations, aligning with the government’s Minimum Work Program (MWP) targets. The initiative is expected to offer a cleaner, reliable, and cost-effective energy alternative while creating employment opportunities in the region.
Following the government program, Prime Minister Modi is expected to address a large public rally at the Parade Ground in Alipurduar. This event is seen as the beginning of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign push ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections and is anticipated to emphasize the government’s stance against terrorism and its commitment to national security.
In addition to official engagements, the Prime Minister’s visit has generated widespread attention due to a planned appeal by a group of schoolteachers who lost their jobs in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling on the state’s teacher recruitment irregularities. These educators, who claim to have been unfairly dismissed despite holding valid qualifications, are seeking a brief meeting with Mr. Modi to request his intervention in restoring their employment.
Led by Moumita Pal, a representative of the affected group, a delegation has approached Alipurduar Member of Parliament Manoj Tigga and BJP district president Mithu Das, requesting their help in facilitating a five-minute audience with the Prime Minister during his stay. “We have been left in the lurch after dedicating seven years to teaching. Despite being qualified and innocent, we lost our jobs due to a blanket judgment that failed to distinguish us from those involved in the scam,” Pal told reporters. She expressed disappointment with the state government’s response, stating that previous meetings, including one with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, failed to offer them any clear assurance.
Pal accused the state authorities and the School Service Commission of not submitting a certified list of qualified candidates to the Supreme Court, adding that the affected teachers possess valid documentation to support their claims. “We are fighting to reclaim what is rightfully ours,” she emphasized.
Responding to their plea, MP Manoj Tigga reaffirmed the BJP’s support for the affected teachers and assured them that the matter would be raised with the central leadership. “Union Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, is already aware of the issue and is examining it closely,” Tigga stated.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to arrive in West Bengal from Sikkim shortly after 1 p.m. on Thursday. After completing his engagements in Alipurduar, he is scheduled to depart for Patna later in the evening.
