KalimNews, May 27, 2025 : On May 24, 2025, the Run with Roshni Foundation celebrated its 14th Foundation Day at the Damsang Banquet Hall in Pedong. The event, which commenced at 10 a.m., saw the esteemed presence of Balasubramanian T (IAS), the District Magistrate of Kalimpong, as the Chief Guest. The program was graced by a wide range of dignitaries, including Pritam Limbu, Executive Magistrate; Chewang Tamang, BDO of Pedong; Laxuman Pokhrel, Officer-in-Charge of Pedong; Kamal Subba, Sabhasad of Pedong; Sarita Rai, former MLA of Kalimpong; Paul Simick, Sabhasad Sports; Nadong Bhutia, a professional football player; Dr. Sudarshan Tamang; Premius Bhutia; Yogesh Gurung; and Tshemed, among other distinguished guests.
The day’s celebrations kicked off with Roshni Rai, the founder of the Run with Roshni Foundation, reflecting on the foundation’s 14-year journey. The event also included inspiring accounts from various runners who have participated in marathons across India alongside the foundation’s team. They shared their experiences and personal stories, highlighting the growth and impact of the foundation over the years.
In a gesture of appreciation, several individuals were felicitated for their remarkable contributions to the foundation and the wider running community. Saraswati Rai, recognized as India’s top marathon runner, was honoured for her exceptional achievements. Rakhee Rai was also acknowledged for her support and work with deaf runners through the Darjeeling Association for the Deaf. Additionally, Ashoke Tamang, President of the Kalimpong Ultramarathon Organising Committee, and other key members— Roland Subba, Secretary; Ishwar Sharma, Joint Secretary; and Richard Rai, Vice President—were recognised for their ongoing contributions to the successful organisation of the Kalimpong Ultramarathon since its inception in 2023.
The foundation also took the opportunity to express gratitude to Anita Bhushal, Anita Nadik, and Sunita Rai Bhutia, who have made significant contributions to the growth and success of the Run with Roshni Foundation over the years. Further acknowledgments were given to various community groups and supporters, including the Nava Jyoti Club, Chumirchen Yuwa Pariwar, Lava Sports Club, SHG Lava Bazar, and volunteers from Kuwapani to Phaperkheti, who have been instrumental in supporting the Kalimpong Ultramarathon.
A highlight of the event was the release of the 5th issue of the foundation’s newsletter, “Hamro Chinari,” which continues to showcase the foundation’s activities and accomplishments.
