The Vice Chancellor of Sam Maris University (SMU), Supare-Akoko in Ondo State, Prof. Francis Gbore, has again reiterated the institution’s zero tolerance to indiscipline and moral decadence prevalent amongst undergraduates in the Nigerian universities.
In a recent interview with newsmen, Prof. Gbore disclosed that the University’s zero tolerance for social vices would not be compromised, stressing that upholding and maintaining a disciplined environment is critical to producing competitive graduates who can help restore the integrity and declining moral values in our society.
In his words, he said “we have zero tolerance for indiscipline and are firmly committed to ensuring that social vices notably cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, obscene dressing, sexual promiscuity, cybercrime, character assassination and indecent behaviors do not take root or thrive amongst our students.
“Maintaining a disciplined environment is sine qua non to total development of our students and promotion of the ideals and good image of our Institution.
“To achieve this lofty goal, Management has formulated disciplinary policies aimed at giving directions to our students to regulate their behaviours and comport themselves within the ambits of the University rules and regulations.
“Our disciplinary actions are not punitive but correctional. The goal is to help our students embrace strong moral values that are gradually fading in our wider society, so they can become responsible citizens and role models in the future.
“We have never taken indiscipline lightly, and this will remain our unwavering stance.
“By upholding high moral standards, we believe we are contributing to creating a more livable and morally sound society, one student at a time.”
In a passing entreaty, the VC urged parents to take advantage of the University’s subsidized school fees and a disciplined academic environment, to bring their wards to Sam Maris University, noting that the institution is a pride as the first private University in Akokoland.
