PTI, May 10, 2025, New Delhi, May 10 (Vaidehi Jahagirdar/Pratyush Ranjan, PTI Fact Check): Amid ongoing military tensions between India and Pakistan, a video of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar purportedly apologising to the world surfaced online. The video appeared to show the Minister admitting that it was India that had falsely accused Pakistan of being the perpetrator behind the Pahalgam terror attack. The Minister also claimed that India is now seeking an apology from the global community after facing the consequences of its alleged deceit. In its investigation, however, the PTI Fact Check Desk found the video doctored and falsely circulated on social media to mislead viewers.
Claim
An X user, Abubakar Qassam (@abubakarqassam), shared a video on May 10 claiming to show External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar apologising to the world. The video appeared to show the Minister admitting that India had falsely accused Pakistan of being the perpetrator behind the Pahalgam terror attack.
Here is the link and archive link to the post, along with a screenshot. When this story was published, the video had garnered 328.4K views and 2.6K likes.
Investigation
As part of the investigation, the Desk carefully analysed the viral video and found multiple inconsistencies. For example, the Minister’s lip movements were distorted and not synchronised with the speech. Additionally, his facial expressions looked unnatural, raising suspicions that the video was AI-generated.
Below is a screenshot highlighting the key findings.
In the next phase of the investigation, the Desk ran the video through the InVid tool using the initial observations and extracted multiple keyframes.
The Desk ran four of these keyframes through Hive Moderation, an AI detection tool, one by one. The results indicated that all of them contained deepfake or AI-generated content.

Subsequently, the Desk concluded that the video shared on social media, showing the External Affairs Minister extending an apology, was AI-generated.
