The Urhobo HOSTCOM Youth Wing has responded strongly to recent remarks made by activist and commentator Mr. Austin Ozobo, reiterating the unshakable commitment of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to the completion of the Ayakoromor Bridge project.
Led by Comrade Sweet Otiotio (Leader) and Mr. Happy Gbeke (Secretary), the Youth Wing dismissed Mr. Ozobo’s claims as not only misleading but also a deliberate attempt to politicize a crucial infrastructure project, which is set to benefit countless residents of Burutu and surrounding communities.
During a press briefing in Warri, Comrade Otiotio emphasized that Governor Oborevwori has shown genuine political will and leadership in advancing the Ayakoromor Bridge, a long-awaited project that has faced delays under previous administrations.
“It is both unfair and deceptive to suggest that the Governor is politicizing the Ayakoromor Bridge. The facts speak for themselves. Governor Oborevwori has continuously allocated funds for the project and even visited the site. His M.O.R.E. Agenda prioritizes infrastructure, with this bridge being one of its key projects,” Otiotio said.
Mr. Happy Gbeke, Secretary of the Youth Wing, also addressed the issue, pointing to the recent progress on the bridge. He noted that significant engineering work has resumed after the Governor’s directive to accelerate contractor mobilization at the site.
“Unlike in previous administrations when the project stalled, we are now seeing tangible progress on the Ayakoromor Bridge under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership. The Governor’s consistent funding of the project deserves recognition,” Gbeke added.
The Urhobo HOSTCOM Youth Wing called on critics to move beyond political biases and rally behind the government to ensure the timely completion of the bridge. They highlighted that the Ayakoromor Bridge would enhance economic connectivity between riverine and upland communities and act as a symbol of unity and progress for the state.
While acknowledging the value of constructive criticism in a democracy, the Youth Wing stressed that baseless statements and political mischief only hinder progress and mislead the public.
Concluding their statement, the Youth Wing pledged continued support for Governor Oborevwori’s administration and urged Deltans to remain patient and united as the government works to complete key projects, including the Ayakoromor Bridge.
“We stand firmly behind Governor Oborevwori and the M.O.R.E. Agenda. The Ayakoromor Bridge is not just a promise; it is a commitment, and the Governor is showing his dedication through tangible results,” said Comrade Otiotio.
