The tragic double murder of a father and son in Murshidabad has sparked intense political debate, with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee doubling down on her controversial claim that outsiders were involved in the violence. Despite the police arresting four local residents in connection with the crime, Mamata has continued to suggest that miscreants from other states and possibly Bangladesh were responsible for the incident, which she describes as part of a pre-planned attack.Speaking on Monday, Mamata reaffirmed her theory, accusing certain individuals of using religion as a tool to incite violence. She stated that “some people are spreading wrong information in the name of religion by bringing outsiders,” further fueling tensions. According to the Chief Minister, these external forces have been stirring up unrest in the region, which eventually led to the murder. Mamata further alleged that some religious leaders, who have been raising slogans and rallying political support, were behind the incitement. Her comments, made in a pointed attack, seemed to target the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), calling them “domestic enemies” who exploit religious sentiment for political gain.
Mamata, who has maintained that she has credible information from Murshidabad, claimed that the true perpetrators of the violence will soon be revealed. She emphasized that Murshidabad has a historical significance as the former capital of Bengal, which she said made the incident even more alarming. “The truth will come out soon, and everyone will know who is responsible,” she asserted, adding that she was gathering more evidence to support her claims.
In a sharp response to the BJP, the Chief Minister also pointed out that incidents of violence in other states like Manipur, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha have not received the same level of attention from central authorities. “Why is it that whenever something happens in Bengal, the Centre sends representatives? We must question this,” she said, accusing the BJP of applying a double standard when it comes to addressing violence in different parts of India.
Mamata’s remarks highlight a continuing theme of political and ideological conflict in the state, with the Chief Minister repeatedly accusing the BJP of trying to destabilize Bengal. She reiterated that the violence in Murshidabad was orchestrated, with false rumors being spread and external elements being used to incite tensions between communities.
The Murshidabad case remains under investigation, and while the police have made arrests, Mamata’s persistent claims of outsider involvement continue to fuel a political storm. It remains to be seen whether further evidence will emerge to corroborate her theory or if the focus will shift to the individuals already apprehended in connection with the crime. Regardless, Mamata’s unwavering stance has made the Murshidabad murders yet another flashpoint in the ongoing political battle between the West Bengal government and the Centre.
