KalimNews, Darjeeling, April 16, 2025 : In a significant show of unity, three major teachers’ organizations—the GTA Headmasters’ Association, the Hill Terai Primary Teachers’ Association (HTPTA), and the Sanyaukta Madhyamik Sikshak Kalyan Sangathan (United Secondary Teachers’ Welfare Organization), held a joint meeting today to address pressing issues affecting educators across the region.
The meeting focused on the ongoing High Court case concerning the appointment of teachers, which has raised concerns and created uncertainty in schools across the hill areas. The leaders and representatives present engaged in detailed discussions about the legal case’s implications and the disruptions it has caused in the education system.
Following the deliberations, the meeting unanimously adopted three key resolutions on collective legal defense, condemnation of misinformation and character assassination and formation of a coordination committee.
All teachers in the GTA region will stand united in response to the court case regarding teacher appointments. The organizations resolved to collectively defend the rights of teachers at all levels, including through legal channels, the meeting resolved.
The gathering strongly condemned the misinformation and character attacks being spread on social media and other platforms about the sub-judice matter. The organizations appealed to the public to refrain from making defamatory remarks about an ongoing legal case. They also demanded prompt action by the police against individuals involved in such defamatory acts, based on FIRs already filed.
A coordination committee has been formed to oversee developments related to the legal case and to plan future programs and actions in support of the teaching community.
The meeting was attended by GTA Headmasters’ Association president P.K. Rai and secretary Anil Sharma, HTPTA secretary Munna Pakhrin, and United Secondary Teachers’ Welfare Organization president Johan Rai, among other senior representatives.
This unified stance by the region’s leading educators’ bodies marks a critical step toward safeguarding teachers’ rights and maintaining the integrity of the education system amid ongoing legal and social challenges.
